Jewellery from the KLENOTA ATELIER

Our atelier is located in the very heart of the Old Town of Prague, an area which has been the center of Czech goldsmithing and jewellery-making for centuries. The local atmosphere, traditions and history of this craft provide us with inspiration every single day. We build upon honest handcrafting and traditional methods when making jewels. The goldsmiths pay attention to every tiny detail in our workshop. We only work with high-quality materials from verified sources, so your jewels stay beautiful for a long time, even if they are worn every day. We understand selling a piece of jewellery is a lifelong commitment. You may purchase a present for someone close to you in our atelier or something special for yourself, but you will always get professional services for all KLENOTA jewels.

Ruby jewellery

Together with sapphires and emeralds, rubies are considered the “big three” of gemstones, that is, they are the most popular red-blue-green trio among colour gemstones. Rubies are a type of corundum and when it comes to hardness, only diamonds are harder than them. Their lustre stays shiny with minimal care and they can even withstand swimming in the sea. However they can be quite fragile, so you should protect them against pressure and temperature shocks.

COLOUR: Rubies come in colours ranging from pink to bright red. Light pink and all other non-red colour corundums are classified as sapphires. The natural gemstones are often heat treated in order to enhance their colour.

CUTRuby jewellery is most often decorated with stones in traditional round or oval cuts. We recommend these cuts mainly when it comes to rings. There are also other “fancy” shapes like marquise, hearts and teardrops (teardrop gemstones look particularly good in pendants).

CARAT: The weight of a ruby, similarly to other gemstones, is expressed in carats (ct) to two decimal places. One (1) ct is equal to 0.2 grams. With earrings and jewellery which has multiple rubies, we always state the total number of carats of all the rubies.
