Jewellery from the KLENOTA ATELIER

Our atelier is located in the very heart of the Old Town of Prague, an area which has been the center of Czech goldsmithing and jewellery-making for centuries. The local atmosphere, traditions and history of this craft provide us with inspiration every single day. We build upon honest handcrafting and traditional methods when making jewels. The goldsmiths pay attention to every tiny detail in our workshop. We only work with high-quality materials from verified sources, so your jewels stay beautiful for a long time, even if they are worn every day. We understand selling a piece of jewellery is a lifelong commitment. You may purchase a present for someone close to you in our atelier or something special for yourself, but you will always get professional services for all KLENOTA jewels.

Emerald jewellery

Emeralds are popular natural gemstones mostly known for their characteristic light to dark green colour. They are classified as a beryl and have a hardness of 7.5 to 8. Together with rubies and sapphires, they are known as the “big three” of gemstones.

CUT: This gemstone is so popular that gemcutters created a new type of cut for it - the emerald cut. It’s a rectangle or a square with the corners cut and it highlights the colour and lustre of an emerald while also better protecting the gemstone against damage from any impact. Emeralds are however also cut into traditional round and oval cuts as well as less common fancy cuts such as hearts, marquise, and teardrops (you’ll see teardrop cuts mainly in pendants).

CARAT: The weight of an emerald, similarly to other gemstones, is expressed in carats (ct) to two decimal places. One (1) ct is equal to 0.2 grams. With earrings and jewellery which has multiple emeralds, we always state the total number of carats of all the emeralds.

CARE: One of the distinguishing features of natural emeralds that gives them their uniqueness is an increased number of cracks and inclusions. Emeralds are fragile and relatively sensitive - they don’t like knocks or hot water. We therefore recommend being extremely careful when wearing your emerald jewellery (mainly rings). It is however possible to make cracked stones look more whole again by submerging them into oil or resin.
