    Jewellery from the KLENOTA ATELIER

    Our atelier is located in the very heart of the Old Town of Prague, an area which has been the center of Czech goldsmithing and jewellery-making for centuries. The local atmosphere, traditions and history of this craft provide us with inspiration every single day. We build upon honest handcrafting and traditional methods when making jewels. The goldsmiths pay attention to every tiny detail in our workshop. We only work with high-quality materials from verified sources, so your jewels stay beautiful for a long time, even if they are worn every day. We understand selling a piece of jewellery is a lifelong commitment. You may purchase a present for someone close to you in our atelier or something special for yourself, but you will always get professional services for all KLENOTA jewels.

    Earrings just for you

    Earrings are more diverse than all other jewellery. Minimalist studs, tiny children’s earrings, hoop earrings with diamonds or gemstones and large gold circles... The number of earring types also corresponds to a large variety of types of fastenings. Each jewel is created in a way so it can be worn as comfortably as possible while still fitting securely. Also, we’re more than happy to accommodate your wishes. If you’re wanting to make any adjustments to the earrings you select, please let us know in the comment section of the order or contact us.

    The weight of the jewellery, as well as of the gems, is always given in total for both earrings.

    Emerald jewellery

    The emerald is a popular natural gemstone mostly known for its light to dark green colour. It is categorized as a beryl stone with a hardness of 7.5 to 8, and together with the ruby and the sapphire, they are the so-called “big three gemstones”.

    CUT: This gemstone is so popular that gemcutters created a new type of cut for it: the so-called “emerald cut”. It is a rectangle or a square with cut corners, which highlight the colour and the lustre of the emerald while also protecting the gemstone from mechanical load. However, traditional round and oval cuts are also used, as well as the less common, so-called fancy cuts, such as hearts, marquises or teardrops (you’ll find teardrop cuts in pendants in particular).

    CARAT: The weight of the emerald, similarly to other gemstones, is expressed in carats (ct) to the second decimal place. 1 ct = 0.2 g. For jewels with more than one emerald and for pairs of earrings, we always state the total number of carats of all stones.

    CARE: One of the distinguishing features of natural emeralds that gives them their uniqueness is an increased amount of cracks and inclusions. Emeralds are fragile and quite sensitive: they don’t fancy bumps or hot water. Therefore, we recommend being extremely careful when wearing your emerald jewels (mainly rings). However, it is possible to make cracked stones look more solid by submerging them in oil or resin.

    Diamond jewellery

    When diamonds are assessed and certified, their basic parameters are evaluated--the so-called 4Cs: cut, clarity, colour and carat. These properties significantly influence the price of a diamond.

    CUT: The right cut gives a diamond its radiant lustre. The most popular cut is a round cut, the so-called brilliant. Diamonds can also be cut into a wide array of so-called “fantasy” cuts, e.g. marquise, baguette, heart, tear, oval or princess (a four- or three-sided cut with sharp corners, popular especially for engagement rings.

    CLARITY: Clarity determines the number, size and distribution of so-called “inclusions”, or internal impurities of a diamond:

    • IF (Internal Flawless) – diamonds with absolute transparency without inclusions,
    • VVS 1, VVS 2 (Very, Very Small) – diamonds with very small inclusions,
    • VS 1, VS 2 (Very Small) – diamonds with small inclusions,
    • SI 1, SI 2 (Small Inclusions) – diamonds with inclusions which can be detected with a magnifying glass,
    • I1, I2, I3 (Included), also labeled P in the Czech Republic – diamonds with medium to larger inclusions visible to the naked eye.

    COLOUR: The colour of white to yellow diamonds is evaluated according to an international scale:

    • D to F – colourless diamonds;
    • G to J – nearly colourless diamonds;
    • K to M – diamonds with yellow tones;
    • N to Z – diamonds with yellow-brown hues.

    Other colours are simply called fancy. Some of our colourful diamonds are treated to emphasise their colour.

    CARAT: The carat (ct) is the diamond’s unit of weight, expressed to the second decimal place, e.g. 0.25 ct. 1 ct = 0.2 g. For jewellery with multiple diamonds and for earrings, we always state the total number of carats of all diamonds.
